Student Financial Aid
The College is a low-cost institution; however, many students must have some form of financial assistance to gain the most from their college experience. The purpose of financial aid is to provide assistance, based on financial need, to students who normally could not attend college without aid. Financial aid includes grants, scholarships, work-study, or a combination of these. Financial aid is supplementary to the efforts of the student and family. Student financial need is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can access FAFSA online at FAFSA® Application | Federal Student Aid. The College's federal code is 008082.
Federal Pell Grants
Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students (those who have not earned a bachelors or graduate degree) who demonstrate financial need by the U.S. Department of Education.
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
SEOG is a federal program that awards to undergraduate students. Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority for SEOG awards. The Financial Aid Office determines awards according to exceptional financial need of the student.
Next NC Scholarship
The State of North Carolina provides funding to N.C. residents who demonstrate limited or no eligibility for Federal Pell Grants. Students must be enrolled at least half-time.
Federal Work-Study Program (FWS)
Work-Study is a federal program that allows students who demonstrate financial need according to the FAFSA the opportunity to work a part-time job on campus. Work-Study offers students a supervised schedule, usually 20-25 hours per week. Students may be employed in off-campus community services positions.
Institutional Scholarships - Cleveland Community College Foundation
About Cleveland Community College Foundation
Established in 1983, the Cleveland Community College Foundation (CCC Foundation) believes strongly that education is fundamental to having a healthy, vibrant community, and a quality education should be available to anyone who wants to pursue one. Our mission is to build a strong development program to ensure a quality education for our students and financial stability for the College. That is why we provide financial resources and critical support to CCC by managing grants, private donations, and corporate partnerships.
Gifts to the CCC Foundation, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, are used to help the College with programming support, instructional technology and equipment, and institutional improvements. In addition, the CCC Foundation receives generous gifts from donors to provide scholarships and support the emerging needs of CCC students, making it easier for them to attain degrees, certificates, or training.
CCC Foundation Scholarships
The CCC Foundation offers more than 45 merit-based and financial need-based scholarships for students enrolled in both degree programs and non-degree programs. In addition, several scholarships are offered for students studying specific fields. Scholarships are available for both new and returning students.
Students can apply online and do not need to apply for a specific scholarship. Applicants are considered for any scholarships for which they qualify. CCC Foundation scholarship applicants must satisfy all Cleveland Community College admissions requirements, including required essays, application questions and any required placement tests for their program of study.
When a student qualifies for financial aid, including a third-party grant (e.g., a Pell Grant) and a scholarship award, the funds from the third-party grant are used first to pay for tuition, fees, and textbooks. For most CCC Foundation scholarships, awards are used only after third-party funds have been applied. If the CCC Foundation scholarship exceeds the balance of the student’s account, the unused funds are returned to the CCC Foundation. The student is not entitled to any excess funds.
Scholarship applications are accepted each spring through the CCC Financial Aid website. Interested applicants should contact their high school guidance counselor or the Financial Aid Office at CCC for more information.
Scholarships are not paid to students but will be applied directly to their tuition costs at CCC.
CCC Foundation Scholarship Application Requirements:
- Students must complete and submit a CCC admission application along with their official high school transcript.
- Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours each semester.
- Students applying for CCC Foundation scholarships must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, unless otherwise stipulated by the scholarship agreement.
- Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) online at www.studentaid.gov.
- Students must complete the CCC Foundation scholarship application at https://clevelandcc.edu/financial-aid/.
- Scholarship recipients are required to write a thank you note before scholarship funds are released.

Forfeiture of Scholarship Support
If a student who has received a CCC Foundation scholarship fails to attend class and/or complete the required coursework set by the instructor, the CCC Foundation shall consider the student to have forfeited the scholarship support. Per College policy, the student will have an account balance with the Business Office for the scholarship portion required to cover any costs associated with completing the required coursework or class.
If a student attends classes and completes coursework but earns a failing grade, the CCC Foundation will honor its commitment to award the scholarship. However, if the student chooses to retake the course in a subsequent semester, the CCC Foundation will not provide scholarship support to the student.
